Eugene-Springfield Community Information
The Eugene-Springfield area is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley with a population of approximately 200,000. The City of Eugene is the third largest city in Oregon and in October 1992, Sunset ranked it as one of the five top college towns in the country.
The climate is mild, the coast is an hour away and the mountains are about an hour and a half away for those who like to ski. Eugene has more than 70 parks and recreation facilities and various programs for people of all ages and abilities. For cultural events, we have The Hult Center for the Performing Arts and it is considered to be one of the best concert spaces in the West. Eugene is also home to the University of Oregon, Lane Community College, Northwest Christian College and the Eugene Bible College.
Full medical services are available in this area. Sacred Heart Hospital, a 470 bed facility, has a cancer care center and a heart center equipped with the latest medical technology. The McKenzie-Willamette Hospital, located in Springfield, is a full care facility also.
The Eugene Airport is located nine miles northwest of Eugene, just off Highway 99 North. At the present time, it is served by United Express, Horizon Air, Delta and Allegiant Airlines. In addition, AMTRAK and Greyhound-Trailways Bus Line are included in the transportation system as well as major freight railroads. Lane Transit District provides bus service for the Eugene area and neighboring communities.
